Cupping Therapy and Gua Sha for Bodywork Practitioners
2-Day Intensive Training
This two-day intensive course introduces bodywork practitioners to the therapeutic applications of cupping therapy and gua sha, two time-tested soft tissue techniques rooted in traditional East Asian medicine and widely used in modern therapeutic bodywork. These tools are designed to improve circulation, release fascial restrictions, reduce muscular tension, and support the body’s natural healing processes.
Throughout the course, participants will learn the theory, safety guidelines, and practical application of both techniques. The curriculum explores how negative pressure created by cupping and the controlled friction used in gua sha can influence the fascia, musculature, and lymphatic circulation to help address common musculoskeletal restrictions.
Students will develop hands-on skills through guided demonstrations and supervised practice. Emphasis is placed on integrating these techniques into an existing bodywork practice in a safe, professional, and effective manner.
Topics Covered
• History and principles of cupping therapy and gua sha
• Physiological effects on fascia, circulation, and soft tissue
• Types of cups and scraping tools and how to select them
• Safety considerations, contraindications, and sanitation protocols
• Static, gliding, and dynamic cupping techniques
• Foundational gua sha stroke patterns and pressure application
• Treatment strategies for common areas of tension including the back, shoulders, neck, and limbs
• Integrating cupping and gua sha into therapeutic sessions
• Client communication and aftercare recommendations
Hands-On Training
